Individual Accountability
Even the most well behaved children will upon occasion require correction. Beginning on the first day of school we will discuss expectations of behavior and how we can be respectful, responsible, and safe. I plan on implementing Brag Tags this year to encourage positive classroom choices. As a class we will decide what character traits we want to encourage. Brag tags are incentive tags that your child can earn for positive behavior and choices that he/she makes during the school day. The tags are placed on a necklace that is kept at school and brought home at the end of the school year. Brag tags are not meant to take home but can be looked at if you come into school to visit! We will also have them available when you come in for parent-teacher conferences. Brag tags are earned when the teacher notices a choice or behavior that is done by a student that exceeds
expectations. Brag tags can be earned for many things. Some of these may include: 100% on a test, Helping Others, Good Listening, etc. I strongly believe in positive reinforcement in my classroom and this is one method that we will use this year to encourage the positive choices and hard work.
When expectations are not met students will be given a verbal warning. If the behavior continues despite the warning, the student will lose a tally mark. If a student loses too many tally marks in a week, they will not be allowed to participate in Friday Free Time. If a student displays blatant disregard for a rule, or does not correct their behavior despite re-direction, they will work with me to complete a behavior explanation form in their own words. This form must be signed and returned.
Group Rewards
It is my desire that all students be intrinsically motivated to achieve their goals and present appropriate behavior. We will work to instill a desire to work together and I hope to have a wonderful sense of community. I will give my class the opportunity to be rewarded as a group. When the class is complimented for behavior in the hallway, the lunchroom, or specials we earn points toward a group reward. When the class successfully earns all points, I will let them vote on their class reward. Examples of rewards include extra recess, popcorn, and pajama day.
